what is a licensed mental health counselor?

According to the New York State Education Department, Office of Professions: “Practitioners, called mental health counselors, are trained in counseling and psychotherapy to treat individuals with mental and emotional disorders and other behavioral challenges. Mental health counselors address mental health, human relationship, education and career concerns within ethical, developmental, preventive and treatment contexts. Mental health counselors demonstrate a concern for the short-term and long-term well-being of individuals, couples, families, groups and organizations.”

what is a licensed professional counselor?

The Pennsylvania equivalent of an LMHC is a licensed professional counselor. According to the Commonwealth Board of Professions a “Licensed professionals who specialize in the application of principles and practices of counseling, mental health and human development to evaluate and facilitate human growth and adjustment throughout the lifespan and to prevent and treat mental, emotional or behavioral disorders and associated stresses which interfere with mental health and normal human growth and development.”

Do you take insurance?

I am an out of network provider. If you have out of network insurance benefits, you may be eligible for full/partial reimbursement for psychotherapy. You will be responsible for upfront payment and I will provide you with an insurance acceptable monthly receipt for fees paid, also referred to as a Superbill, that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement.

How much do sessions cost?

The out of pocket rate for a 45-50 minute psychotherapy session is $200. I offer a number of sliding scale spots based on financial need.

How often are therapy sessions?

Generally, we would meet for sessions once or twice weekly and they range from 45-50 minutes.

What if I've never been in therapy before?

Welcome. No experience necessary. I understand starting therapy can be intimidating and will work with you every step of the way. Let's meet exactly where you're at.

Do you offer in person sessions?

I have limited in person availability on (most) Tuesdays in lower Manhattan. M/W/Th I’m available virtually and currently only practice virtually for PA residents.

Do I need any special equipment for telehealth therapy?

All you need is a private, comfortable location, a web browser, and device with audio/video capability. Headphones offer added privacy but are not required.

Can I work with you if I live or travel outside of New York State?

Due to licensing regulations, clients are required to be physically in New York state or Pennsylvania during our scheduled telehealth therapy sessions.
